One of my favourite habits that I have focused on thought my Inquiry has been going for more walks. I find that this habit has had some of the best effects on my mental health, so this week I wanted to expand on this idea by getting out in nature more and enjoying being outside. Since its reading week, I have more extra time than normal to explore and find some cool spots that I can hopefully revisit later.

On Wednesday, I went out to Sooke with my friends and went on a lovely walk along the ocean. It was such a fun day and the weather wasn’t as windy or cold as it had been the past few days, but we also stopped at Starbucks before for some warm drinks so were prepared for if it was! My favourite part about this walk was that it was a popular walking spot for people to bring their dogs, so I got to see so many cute dogs who were all playing together. I also liked how open the ocean was in this spot, there were a lot of signs that said it was a popular whale watching destination which was so cool, but unfortunately I didn’t get to see any… maybe next time!

I got to go to a couple other beaches during the week, these ones a bit closer to my house. Since I have been feeling a little too trapped in my normal routine this was a good practice to allow some more diversity in my days. Although healthy habits are great things to develop and keep you on track of staying emotionally and physically healthy, sometimes you need to get out of your routine. There is also such thing as unhealthy habits which in my case can be focusing too much on getting work done and constantly trying to staying on task. This is why it is good to also switch it up and allow yourself to take a break.
Another one of my favourite locations from this week was watching the sunset from Clover point park. It is one of my favourite places to watch the sunset, I love the pathway across the park and the amazing view of the mountains across the water.

I’m really glad that I got to take some time away from homework and school this week and be outside. It really helped me feel less stressed about the end of the semester coming up. I was a little disappointed that I did not get to go home and see me family during reading break, but I practiced my healthy habit of calling them more a lot over the break and I had great friends to keep my company! I hope everyone has a great reading break 🙂

Hi Lexi,
The photos you took look amazing. I go on walks too for my mental health. I find it very useful for me to leave my environment for example, if I have been studying in my room for a while. I also really love the fresh air and sensing different aspects like smell, touch, sight, and hearing. I find I get more clarity and focus by going on walks even if it is for 15 minutes. I think it would be great if schools allocated time for students to go on walks so they can refocus on what they are doing.

I can connect to this post, Lexi. I know that when I am experiencing a time of stress, going for a walk and finding nature helps my metal health and overall sense of well-being tremendously.
Clover point sunsets are fantastic! Thank you for sharing this beautiful images.

Oh my gosh the last photo is so beautiful! I love catching sunsets… I just recently went to Sooke but it was sadly too cloudy for there to have been a pretty sunset.
We have definitely had a lot going on recently, getting out and walking around my favourite spot is something that helps me out a lot too. I feel really lucky to live somewhere where there are always new places to check out.
Thanks for sharing these photos!
