What am I inquiring into?
For my Free Inquiry Project I decided that I wanted to focus on the power of habits. I have been debating between other topics but settled on this one because I believe that the most important thing to me is my mental health, and through this inquiry project I can work to improve it through little activities that will help with solving my question. All the new things that I wanted to try as my other Inquiry topics could also be incorporated into this project as new habits to try to learn. My inquiry question is: How does developing healthy habits contribute to living a healthy lifestyle?
Where did this come from?
I chose to do my free inquiry on habits because since moving back to Victoria this year I have found myself struggling to create routines and habits that I have had in the past. I just recently was listening to a podcast where they discussed how being kind can drastically improve ones mental and physical health. After hearing that I was intrigued and began to research this phenomenon , here is an article that sums it up quite nicely: The art of kindness – Mayo Clinic Health System. It was so cool to hear about how doing positive acts in your life can influence positive reactions from your mind and body. I wanted to expand on this idea in my Free Inquiry Project by focusing on the benefits of including healthy habits in your lifestyle.
I hope to use the process of my Free Inquiry Project as an opportunity to become a more organized, responsible and happy person. I think that creating habits will free up space in my brain to complete my best work and to stay on task even when things get difficult. My overall goal is to improve my mental well being and I look forward to documenting my journey.
Where am I going?
Initial questions:
- What is the process of developing a habit, is it easy or difficult?
- How does a habit become unhealthy?
- What is the best way to get into the routine of a habit?
I will be documenting my process each week, hopefully focusing on a new habit each post and marking my progress on how long they take to become fully implemented in my daily routines.
A sneak preview into next week
I want to make a habit of getting up earlier! I have been rushing to get ready in the morning and feel like it is causing disorganization in my life. I do not have a regular sleep schedule and I believe that by setting a time to get up and go to sleep will help me to create a routine to follow. I also am starting morning shifts at my job next week so it is important for me to be prepared and ready to go each morning while ensuring I have enough energy to successfully complete my day. To implement this habit I have to try to go to bed earlier and set an alarm for myself in the morning, I am planning to go to bed at 10:00pm every night and wake up at 6:30 every morning. I will update my blog next week with my progress!
